Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Engineering and Technology for Sustainable Development (IJETSD) must adhere to the guidelines outlined below to ensure clarity, consistency, and high academic standards. Submissions that do not comply with these requirements may be returned to the authors for necessary revisions prior to being considered for the peer-review process.

Article Types and Format

Original / Research Articles

These manuscripts should report novel and unpublished research findings, including clear descriptions of the research design, methodology, results, and conclusions.

Typical sections include:

Introduction
Provides background information, research objectives, and the significance of the study.

Methods
Describes the research design, materials, procedures, and analytical methods used in the study.

Results
Presents research findings supported by appropriate analysis, figures, or tables.

Discussion
Interprets the results and relates them to existing research or theoretical frameworks.

Conclusion
Summarizes the key findings and highlights potential practical or theoretical implications.

Review Articles

Comprehensive reviews that analyze and summarize the current state of knowledge on a specific topic. These articles evaluate major developments, emerging trends, and research gaps in engineering, technology, and sustainability.

Case Studies

Detailed reports describing specific cases, technical applications, or unique phenomena that provide valuable insights and practical implications for research and industry.

Editorials

Short opinion or commentary articles written by the Editor-in-Chief or editorial board members, typically discussing emerging trends, policy issues, or developments relevant to the journal’s scope.

Commentaries

Articles that provide critical analysis, perspectives, or discussions related to previously published research or significant issues within the field.

Letters to the Editor

Brief communications addressing research findings, scholarly discussions, or responses to previously published articles.

Expert Opinions

Articles presenting insights from leading experts on emerging technologies, sustainability challenges, or evolving research directions.

Perspective Articles

Scholarly articles expressing the author’s viewpoint on important research topics or debates within engineering, technology, and sustainability.

Manuscript Structure

Cover Letter

The cover letter should:

  • Be addressed to the Editor-in-Chief
    • Include the title of the manuscript and article type
    • Confirm that the manuscript has not been submitted elsewhere
    • Provide information about related presentations or previous submissions, if applicable

Title Page

The title page should include:

  • Full title of the manuscript (maximum 150 characters)
    • Running title (maximum 75 characters)
    • Full names of all authors and their institutional affiliations
    • Corresponding author’s contact details (email and phone number)
    • Details of research grants or clinical trial registration, if applicable
    Total word count of the manuscript (excluding references, tables, and figures)

Abstract and Keywords

  • A concise abstract of up to 300 words summarizing objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions.
    3–5 keywords listed in alphabetical order to improve indexing and discoverability.

Manuscript Text

  • The main manuscript should be structured according to the article type.
    • All citations must be numbered sequentially and indicated as superscripts within the text.

Figures and Tables

  • Figures and tables should be numbered according to their first citation in the text.
    • Tables should appear after the reference list in the manuscript file.
    • Figures must be submitted as separate high-resolution files (e.g., .jpg, .png) with clear legends.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest to ensure transparency in the publication process.

Acknowledgments

This section should recognize individuals, institutions, or organizations that contributed to the research but do not meet authorship criteria.

Funding sources, medical writing assistance, or conference presentations should also be disclosed. Written consent must be obtained from individuals acknowledged.

References

  • References must be accurate, complete, and listed on a separate page.
    • Use double spacing and number references consecutively.
    • Citations in the text, tables, and figure legends should appear as Arabic numerals in parentheses.
    • Journal titles should follow Index Medicus / MEDLINE abbreviations.
    • For unpublished work, indicate the status (e.g., “in press”).

Tables

  • Tables should be created using Microsoft Word table tools.
    • Number tables in the order they appear in the manuscript.
    • References cited within tables should correspond to the main reference list.

Figure Legends

  • Include all figure legends at the end of the manuscript.
    • Provide clear and concise explanations for each figure.
    • References cited within legends should follow the same numbering used in the text.

Figures and Illustrations

  • Figures should be numbered according to their order of appearance in the manuscript.
    • Each figure must include a brief title and explanatory caption.
    • Images involving identifiable individuals must include signed consent or be properly anonymized.

Supplementary Materials

Authors may submit additional supporting materials, such as datasets, multimedia files, or extended methodological descriptions that complement the manuscript.

Submission Process

Initial Submission

Before submission, authors should ensure that the manuscript fits the scope of the International Journal of Engineering and Technology for Sustainable Development (IJETSD).

To maintain anonymity:

  • Authors must remove all identifying information (such as names, institutional affiliations, acknowledgments, and funding details) from the manuscript before submission.
  • Reviewers are selected based on their subject-matter expertise and are required to maintain strict confidentiality and provide objective and constructive evaluations of the manuscript.

2. Review Timeline, Criteria, and Decision Stages

Review Timeline

The typical review process follows the timeline below:

  • Initial Editorial Screening: 3–5 days
  • Peer Review Process: 2–4 weeks
  • Final Decision and Notification: Within 4–6 weeks of submission

Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on the following criteria:
